What Is a DNR?

A Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order is a legal document signed by a medical provider when an individual decides that they do not want cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or any other attempt at life-prolonging measures in the event that their heart stops beating.

The choice to have a DNR in place does NOT mean you will not be cared for, or that your comfort needs will not be met. It only means you will not receive CPR when your heart stops beating.
